Sarina Wiegman has used Hampton exclusively since her return from injury last spring.

Her development during the campaign was defined by a sharp reduction in conceded goals per match. Hampton averaged just under one goal conceded per game in WSL play this season, the lowest tally among keepers who faced double-digit shots per match. In Champions League group stages she kept three clean sheets in six outings while facing teams that combined for over 75 total attempts on target.

The two-year term is the longest single extension granted to a first-team woman signed by Chelsea since Millie Bright renewed her contract in early 2023. It signals a preference for stable squad-building rather than quick fixes, especially given that other top clubs routinely rotate their first-choice keeper or sign backup options each cycle.

Hampton’s distribution figures also improved significantly compared to her Villa era. She completed a higher percentage of progressive passes upfield in 2024-25 than any previous season, with roughly 22 percent of her successful short passes resulting in a shot or key pass within the next 15 seconds. That rate outperforms both the WSL average and most of England’s regular starting keepers over the same stretch.

No transfer fee is tied to the deal because Hampton arrived via internal recruitment and had already fulfilled her initial agreement when she moved from Villa in 2019.
